Ferris State University is breaking new ground by enrolling two AI entities, Ann and Fry, alongside human students. The AI learners will actively participate in courses, offering unique insights into the student experience.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is dominating the current conversation about teaching and learning. Educators recognize AI is here to stay, but we’re all still exploring the best ways to put this technology to productive, safe use in schools and classrooms. 

The U.S. Department of Education’s (USED) Office of Education Technology recently released a new policy report, Artificial Intelligence and the Future of Teaching and Learning: Insights and Recommendations, to help education and technology leaders navigate the quickly evolving landscape. A couple weeks ago, I was lucky to be part of the Instructure team attending ISTELive 23 in Philadelphia. AI dominated the session schedule, the expo hall, and happy hour discussion. Overwhelmingly, educators are excited about the opportunities AI offers, and they’re thinking critically (just like we are) about how AI can be embraced to support teachers and prepare students.
