@DavidSchlater I believe you have to interact with a post that has replies before the split screen shows up.  At least, that was what I was seeing yesterday.

On the question of files counting or not counting for graded discussions, my recollection is that files that are attached to a graded discussion do not, in fact count toward the student's files quota....
