Canvas Mega Checklist

The next term will be here before you know it; will you be ready? The best way to make sure is with the Canvas Mega Checklist. This handy tool for K-12 and higher ed was created by Canvas users just like you during a workshop at InstructureCon 2015. It highlights things to do before a term begins, during the term while courses are in session, and once the term is completed.

Since 2013, Canvas Network has offered more than 500 courses with nearly 700,000 participants. Here’s a preview of new courses this month:

    • This proven course created by the University of Central Florida and EDUCAUSE, Blendkit: Becoming a Blended Learning Designer, is back by popular demand. If you’re an instructor or course designer itching to try out Credly open badges and to explore the world of blended learning, then this is the course for you.

K-12

February may be the shortest month of the year, but that doesn’t mean Canvas is short on ideas and resources for your K-12 programs. Here’s what’s happening during this chilly month of love:

    • Canvas Newsstand is your one-stop Canvas news shop. It includes six different areas of communication from the Community and the Canvas website: Canvas Week in Review, Canvas Connection, Community News, Extra Credit: Canvas Blog, Leading Expert Webinars, and Official Press Releases.
    • Grade Pass Back group is now live in the Community. If you’re a PowerSchool or Skyward user, join the group for regular updates, discussion boards, and swag giveaways.

Partnerships

In January, we welcomed four new partners to our ecosystem of LTI learning tool providers. With so many awesome partners building LTI integrations with Canvas, it’s no wonder more than 95 percent of all K-12 and HE courses have at least one LTI tool enabled through the account.

Partner Spotlight

Lion’s Heart is a nationwide volunteer platform for 6th–12th grade students and a Certified Partner of Canvas. Lion’s Heart is now integrated into Canvas to provide students and teachers access to upcoming volunteer opportunities, leadership training, and a digital volunteer portfolio.

Many schools encourage, if not require, community service because of its importance during the

college, internship, or job application process. Lion’s Heart has supported thousand of teens who have volunteered more than 400,000 hours, making community service easy and fun for members.

When educators use Lion’s Heart through Canvas, they can:

    • Access training materials to help students learn how to volunteer, lead service projects, conduct meetings, and share opportunities.
    • Track the collective volunteer hours of their classes.
    • Share scholarship opportunities with students and show them how to qualify for national or peer service awards.
    • Learn how to become a Class Coordinator.

When students access Lion’s Heart via Canvas, they can:

    • Keep track of their service hours by cause (i.e., animals, military, homeless, disabled, etc.) or total time volunteered.
    • Access and share their volunteer portfolio in real-time, which also shows officer positions and awards earned.
    • Easily identify opportunities for scholarships and community service in their communities.

Lion’s Heart will host a webinar on Wednesday, March 2, 2016. You can join by viewing the events listed on the Canvas Partner Portal home page.
