Canvas Release Notes

Canvas Production Release Notes (2017-02-18)

In this production release (February 18), instructors can show and hide deleted discussion replies and be included in group collaborations. Additionally, instructors who can manually add users to a course benefit from an improved workflow process.

Admins and instructors can also view more standardized interaction with course student data using the Student Context Card feature, which must be enabled by an account admin and applies to the entire account.

Other minor updates have been made to several Canvas areas including APIs. Production release notes also include fixed bugs.

Canvas Community Updates

New Feature Idea Space

On Friday, February 24, 2017, we will flip [the proverbial] switch, and make the DRAFT: Feature Ideas space the official landing for the Share Ideas space! We’d like to call your attention to a few important events that will take place over the next week in preparation for the switch:

  • Additional Product Development Priorities
Priority: Analytics 2: Teacher & Student and Priority: Canvas Teacher App are available now. Quizzes.Next and Gradebook Enhancements will be added soon.
  • Simplified Idea stages
‘Under Consideration’ and ‘Gathering Information’ stages are being absorbed into ‘Product Radar’. These stages will remain open for vote and comment.
  • Simplified Page navigation (fewer clicks!)
The ‘Share Ideas’ button on the Home page will direct to DRAFT: Feature Ideas, which will be called ‘Canvas Studio’. The existing Canvas Studio and Canvas Feature Ideas pages will be deleted, as the new page integrates all of their content, and more!
  • Reopened ideas for voting
Three business days after the new process goes live, all ideas that are currently On Hold and Archived with 70 or more votes will enter Open for Vote stage on Wednesday, March 1, 2017. Ideas that did not make the 70 vote threshold will be archived and moved to Cold Storage However, a few ideas that fall outside of these parameters may still be Open for Vote if they align with current product development priorities.

  • Many of the lessons are about submitting assignments.
