GROUPIES: Assignments for Groups

In Canvas, the word ‘groups’ is used throughout the platform to mean different things. TheGroupies Series" is designed to clarify these nuances in hopes that you become a ‘fan’ of groups in Canvas.

In this session, we look at assignments for groups (a.k.a. differentiated assignments).

Have you ever wanted to give one assignment to one group of students and another to a different group (without confusing students by having both assignments be visible)? Have you ever wanted to extend a deadline of one assignment to one group of students, but not the entire class? This session demonstrates ways to leverage differentiated assignments to customize course assignments in a way that keeps your gradebook clean and the students on track.
Please click here to register.

Extending the Efficacy of the Learning Management System: Integrating Tools to Enhance Learning Online

Learning management systems (LMS) such as Blackboard and Canvas provide a foundation for instructors to design online learning experiences. In recent years, the functionality of most LMSs has expanded to offer more flexibility, primarily by allowing external tools to be integrated. Tools such as Twitter, YouTube, and Quizlet have the potential to increase learners’ access to content, foster interaction with others in the community, and assess learning in diverse ways. In this session, we will provide examples of how these tools can support sound pedagogical practices, and encourage attendees to explore integrations in their online courses. Specifically, an instructor shares experiences of utilizing several integration tools within Canvas online courses.

Participants who attend the session will learn about...

  • how the LMS has changed over time to support more robust set of tools
  • how these tools can support sound pedagogical practices and encourage attendees to explore integrations in their online courses.

New Feature Idea Space

On Friday, February 24, 2017, we will flip [the proverbial] switch, and make the DRAFT: Feature Ideas space the official landing for the Share Ideas space! We’d like to call your attention to a few important events that will take place over the next week in preparation for the switch:

  • Additional Product Development Priorities
Priority: Analytics 2: Teacher & Student and Priority: Canvas Teacher App are available now. Quizzes.Next and Gradebook Enhancements will be added soon.
  • Simplified Idea stages
‘Under Consideration’ and ‘Gathering Information’ stages are being absorbed into ‘Product Radar’. These stages will remain open for vote and comment.
  • Simplified Page navigation (fewer clicks!)
The ‘Share Ideas’ button on the Home page will direct to DRAFT: Feature Ideas, which will be called ‘Canvas Studio’. The existing Canvas Studio and Canvas Feature Ideas pages will be deleted, as the new page integrates all of their content, and more!
  • Reopened ideas for voting
Three business days after the new process goes live, all ideas that are currently On Hold and Archived with 70 or more votes will enter Open for Vote stage on Wednesday, March 1, 2017. Ideas that did not make the 70 vote threshold will be archived and moved to Cold Storage However, a few ideas that fall outside of these parameters may still be Open for Vote if they align with current product development priorities.
