If an assignment has been set up as a moderated assignment, and you have permission to moderate assignments, you can add students to the moderation set.

If a student is added to a moderation set, any grade assigned to the student by a review is treated as a provisional grade until you review the assignment, select the final grade, and post the final grade. Moderated assignments include up to two reviewers and one moderator. Reviewers can be any user with a role to edit grades (commonly TAs or other instructors) and interact with SpeedGrader the same way as when grading any other assignment.

Courses with Multiple Moderators

An assignment supports only one moderator grade, which can be edited or overwritten by any user with the moderate grades permission. However, sometimes a course may contain more than one user with permission to moderate grades If more than one moderator exists in a course, you may want to discuss a policy for your course as to which of you will control official grade posting for the assignment.

Note: Your assignment must be published before you can add students to the moderation set.

View SpeedGrader Links

For students added to the moderator set, SpeedGrader links appear in the page for quick access to view assignment submissions and comments from each reviewer [1].

If a student's name does not include a SpeedGrader link [2], the student was not added to the moderator set. However, the assignment can still be reviewed in SpeedGrader like any other SpeedGrader assignment. Non-added students can be added to the moderation set at any time.

If a student's assignment was not included in the moderation set, the Moderate page does not display any SpeedGrader links. Either the moderator must select the 1st reviewer grade, or add the student to the moderation set and regrade the submission.

You can access assignment submissions by clicking any SpeedGrader link.

View Provisional Grades

Once a reviewer has entered a grade for a moderated student in SpeedGrader, the Moderate page displays the assigned grade in the 1st Reviewer column [1]. The first grade is the first provisional grade available for the assignment and displays as a link. If you want to review the moderated assignment from the first reviewer in SpeedGrader, including submission comments and any rubric feedback, click the grade link.

Once a student in the moderation set receives a provisional grade, the Moderate page displays a second SpeedGrader link [2]. This link can be used by a second reviewer, or the link can be used for your own review if necessary. Although moderated assignments support up to three provisional grades, only one grade is required.

If a student was not included in the moderation set, the Moderate page still displays any grades received by a reviewer [3]. The reviewer's grade will be submitted as the final grade unless you decide to add the student to the moderation set and regrade the submission. You can add the student to the moderation set at any time.
