In this update, the Canvas Parent app supports setting alerts for global announcements and creating observer accounts. The app and the login page have been redesigned for improved usability. The Settings menu has been replaced by the User Menu. Admins can act as a user in the Parent app.
Download Canvas Parent in the Play Store. Version 2.0 requires Android 5.0 or later.
Global Announcement Alerts
The Alerts page supports alerts for global announcements.
The Parent app supports creating a Canvas observer account. The option to create an account is only available for institutions with self registration enabled.
To create an account, observers will need to enter a student pairing code, which can be generated by a student in the student’s User Details page.
The Settings menu has been replaced by the User Menu. The options to manage observed students, get help with the app, and log out of the app have been moved to the User Menu. Observers can also switch between observer accounts using the Change User option.
Act as User Option
Admins can use the Act as User link in the User Menu to masquerade as a user in the Parent app. While acting as the user, a magenta border and the user's name display on every page.
Login Page Redesign
The login page has been redesigned for improved usability and accessibility. App-specific logins have been discontinued and only Canvas observer credentials can be used to log in to the app.
Parent App Redesign
For improved usability, the Navigation Menu icon have been moved to the bottom of the screen, and the student selection icons have been replaced by the Student drop-down menu.
Student Addition & Removal
The Parent app no longer includes options to add or remove observed students.
