When creating an event, you can choose between different event types.



MEET UPSInformal chats where people join to discuss a tool or topic of interest. Meet-ups include at least one facilitator to help jump-start the conversation.Online or On-site

(30-60 mins)
  • Brainstorming ideas
  • Hosting office hours
  • Informal discussions
QUICK DEMOSShort informal demonstrations of a tool in action. If you want to demo a 3rd party tool (like an LTI), be sure to focus on its integration with Canvas.Online

(5-20 mins)
  • Demonstrating a feature
  • Demonstrating 3rd-party integrations
  • (No demos of features in closed beta, please)
TWITTER CHATSInformal reverse Q&A on Twitter. The 'host' of the chat posts 3-6 questions related to a topic on Twitter over the course of 1 hour and others chime in with their comments and feedback. These should include #hashtags.Online

  • Meeting new people
  • Engaging in a topic
  • Getting a pulse on a topic
PRESENTATIONSEvents presented by one person or a group of people on a specific tool or topic of interest. It often includes a slide deck with open Q&A throughout (or at the end of) the session.Online or On-site

  • Sharing tips and tricks
  • Topic deep-dives
  • Processes & checklists
PANEL DISCUSSIONSCurated events where a moderator brings together a group of 2-4 people for a cafe-style discussion around a tool or topic.Online or On-site

  • Sharing different POVs
  • Bringing together experts to address challenges, needs, and/or best practices
WORKSHOPSWorkshops hosted by a community member or school.Online or On-site

(1hr-Half day)
  • Workshops on campus
  • Conference keynotes
  • Faculty/Teacher trainings
CANVAS COURSESOpportunities for users to experience or use a feature, a tool, or an LTI in a sandbox or demo Canvas course.Online

(1-3 weeks facilitated or self-directed)
  • Demonstrating Canvas from a student's POV
  • Testing LTI tools
  • Facilitating demo/training courses
CONFERENCESOn-site conferences or events promoted in CanvasLIVE. This includes UnConferences, too!Online

(1-3 weeks facilitated or self-directed)
  • Day(s) filled with multiple sessions/tracks
  • Keynotes
  • Free or Fee-based events
PARTY or GAMEWho doesn't like to party or play games? If you want to host a game or party event, this is for you!Online
  • Leveling up a 'meet-up' with some fun party-type flair
  • Online trivia
  • Fun contests
