Once you download the Parent App from the App store, you can create an account in the Canvas Parent app. As part of creating an account, you can associate a student with your account. You must know the student’s Canvas URL, user login, and password.
If you already have an observer account from your student’s institution, you do not need to create a separate account and can use your Canvas credentials to log in.
- The student’s institution must enable access to the Canvas Parent app. If you create an account but cannot add a student, the student’s institution has restricted you from viewing student information through the Canvas Parent app.
- When adding a student as part of your new account, the student must be enrolled in the course and must accept the course invitation before you can sign up to observe the student. If you receive an invalid username or password message during the signup process and the student's credentials are correct, check with the student to verify that he or she has received and accepted the course invitation.
Tap the Create Account link .
Note: If you already have a parent or observer account in Canvas, you can log in to the Canvas Parent app using your Canvas credentials .
Create Account Details
Enter your first name , last name , and email address . Enter a password  and reconfirm the password . Tap the Create button .
Add a student to your account. Enter the name of your student's institution . Tap the Next button .
Note: If you cannot add a student to your account, the student’s institution has restricted you from viewing student information through the Canvas Parent app.
