We are excited to announce our 11th annual Winter Institute here at Yavapai College on December 15th and 16th in beautiful Prescott, Arizona!
This year we will having a day dedicated to Canvas with faculty led sessions on topics we gleaned from our initial surveys of faculty about Canvas use.
Our first day will be focused on Quality Matters, Panopto, and Turnitin, with some short ignite style sessions about Canvas. We will also have a presenter from Articulate sharing Storyline and Presenter.
"The institutes are conferences for YC faculty where they offer and receive training from their peers in a huge variety of topics surrounding best practices in the classroom, as well as ed-tech. It's a place where teachers meet, learn, and discuss teaching & learning, as well as socialize and have fun together twice a year. Keynote speakers from inside and outside the college also present. Though ostensibly for faculty, staff members often take part on both sides of the podium.
The very first institute was offered during the summer of 2006. It was a 6-day training event, where 58 faculty members were in attendance, during which were we provided 1148 training hours. Since the first institute was so successful, the college supported moving forward with the biannual, multi-day teaching and learning event for all full-time and adjunct faculty. The institutes are hosted by the Teaching & eLearning Support (TeLS) Department and Great Ideas for Teaching (GIFT) Center.
The Summer Institute is a three day event held in May, the week after the spring semester ends. The Winter Institute is a two day event held in December, the week after the fall semester ends. Faculty and staff have conducted approximately 476 workshop sessions during the institutes. There have been 1,507 participants and 9983.45 total engagement hours."
