Hi everyone, I am new here but we have been using Canvas at CityU of Hong Kong since 2014. Our team supports e-learning at our institution. Around a month ago, the new default course home applied to our Canvas instance. I thought it would be a good idea to promote teachers to use Modules. I also liked the idea of providing a shortcut to…(Show moreShow less)
This is a story of two parts, one a user error that was a pain to clean up and the other is what I think is a bug, what canvas support says is functioning as designed and what may be a problem between American and Australian English. TL;DR. As a user, think before you hit the big green button. As an Admin, don’t leave yourself enrolled in…
At our university we have a number of ways instructors can share video content with students and we have a number of institutional targets around the use of multimedia content for student learning (both instructor and student generated). I'm interested in understanding how many of our courses are already using the canvas media tool, where they are…(Show moreShow less)
Hi Colleen, The Canvas Media upload tool in the RCE is also of great interest to me. I’ve been looking at the issue around the video player thumbnail display. The media isn’t located on the core Canvas instance. That is, it’s in a separate system designed to more effectively stream media files, and it’s a basically a striped down version of…
Thanks to all who attended the APAC discussion panel at CanvasCon in Sydney, it was good to meet many of you. I highly enjoyed the conference and was wondering if people had ideas about how we might get more out of it.
I would have liked to see more session from Canvas about their Roadmap, what they see as priorities and how they are growing in our area and OS.
The other thing I would like to see is more opportunity to network. I think Instructure should look at running the conference over two days with networking dinner/drinks at night between the days.
Another possibility would be to end the second day with an APAC group meeting. This could help us organise the group to help build it over time.
HI APAC, saw the panel yesterday and I agree with you that there needs to be more Aussies getting on board in the Community and in Commons. In NSW K-12 we have new syllabuses through NESA - Home | NSW Education Standards and we believe that life would be made a lot simpler if we could encourage sharing of resources, programs plans, anything really based on these new syllabuses. Imagine that - reducing our workloads by sharing! How awesome. We have placed a few things in Commons such as our Canvas Training package in Commons if anyone needs it. There are other things we have shared - and we are only 12 months into our Canvas 'journey'. As we go, our Campus will place more things there. We also have a group called Canvas HUG (Hunter Users Group) for schools around the Hunter Valley in NSW, however if people are are a bit starved for NSW content - happy to add people in. Also - think you should update your tags (LHS of this page) to include some more areas - Learning Areas, topics, anything really. Thanks for presenting and we hope to continue the uploading of Aussie content. David SUMMERVILLEcallaghancollegewallsendcampuscanvashugsydney2017canvasconsydney2017
Hi folks, I've been creating some column layout templates for my colleagues that include image and video examples, and their citation details. The layouts have been created using Flex boxes. On the whole, the layouts have worked well, however, I noticed that the urls I've included as part of the citation information under the video/image do not…(Show moreShow less)
Just a quick cross-post for those in APAC who may not otherwise have found it - you can read through a number of blog posts from different authors at InstCon this year. The link for the InstCon blog is InstructureCon 2017
Hi Bobby Pedersen, great question... This was also asked at our Canvas Community Panel session at CanvasCon Sydney yesterday, whilst we knew the meaning, we weren't sure exactly what each of the letters stood for (somewhat embarassingly ). As Kim Flowers mentioned above, it refers to 'The Asia Pacific region', i.e. the second point here: APAC -…
I'm excited about starting to use Canvas in our primary schools. I'd like to compile a list of top reasons to use Canvas in a K-6 situation. I'm sure that TONYA, Renee, Kristin and their teams from K-12 and the wonderful peeps in APAC and Canvas Engagement Strategies have collected some great selling points. Shine the light on Canvas here!PreviewHide preview
