If I place the following into a Content page via the Rich Content Editor:

Here is some text.

Here is some more text.

What I am left with after saving the page and going back to editing is:

Here is some text.

Here is some more text.

There is no reason that such HTML comments need to be automatically removed and many reasons why they should be preserved:

    • It is useful to have documentation embedded into a page as notes for future modifications of the page.
    • It is useful to have documentation embedded into a page as notes to understand why things where done as they are in a page.
    • It is useful to be able to put incomplete information into a page, then later be able to uncomment it when you have completed the update.
    • It is useful to preserve old information in the page, rather than simply loosing it. For example, a reference might have been relevant for an earlier version of the course material, but it is no longer available - but might be useful to preserve its previous existence.
    • The comment could serve as a template when adding future material.
