Conversations Autocomplete Courses Menu - Change Courselist

    Context: https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-14130-canvas-production-release-notes-2018-02-17#jive_content_id_Autocomplete_C…  On 2/17/2018, the Conversation Courses Menu has been updated as an autocomplete menu. In this menu (as of release), the courses are listed as all courses that an student/instructor were involved in alphabetical order, and then all groups in Alphabetical order.


    Issue: In the previous version of Canvas Conversations, the drop-down list of courses was populated by the courses in the dashboard. If a course was not on the dashboard, it would not be shown in the drop-down menu in the previous version. This has been very helpful to instructors who sent messages for their classes that they are teaching, one quarter at a time. 

     

    Now in the current version, instructors will not have their "most-used" courses on the top of the drop-down, instead seeing all courses. Teachers may want to see their most-used/current courses at the top of the list instead of typing the course name or a student. This is an especially severe issue for teachers that are teaching a course over multiple quarters with the same name.

     

    Suggestion: Have certain options available for people using conversations so that their most used courses are at the top of the list, rather than starting from the "A"s for all courses. Some of these include

     

    -Having starred courses from the dashboard appear first in the list, then continue with listing courses in alphabetical order.

     

    -Having an option to show courses in the autocomplete course menu using different selectors such "Most recent first" or "Current Courses".
