Will you add a feature that allows Admin users to email all faculty in Canvas?
Josue, what I’ve done to get around this is to have a course where I have all Instructors added as students (it’s our online Teacher training course). This works well because that way I know when I’m messaging them through Canvas I’m only messaging actual teachers who use Canvas. For the way we do things at our school if I was to message everyone in Canvas with the teacher role that might include some people who weren’t actually teaching any courses - sometimes we add students in as teachers for sandbox courses or Deans in as teachers to review courses.
Also, as a side note, Canvas doesn’t actually have email. It’s considered more of a messaging system. I believe this has to do with the fact that people don’t have Canvas email addresses and people can’t email each other from their regular email into Canvas. People can respond to a Canvas message that gets forwarded out to their email, but there is no way to start a message from outside of Canvas and have it go into Canvas.
I think Kona Jones' response is very important. Too many of us use Canvas messaging as email, which I don't believe was it's intent or purpose. Students generally have academic email accounts for which they are responsible. By attempting to make Canvas messaging to perform as a full-fledged email application, it seems to me to take resources away from Canvas being a LEARNING MANAGEMENT environment.
Just my two cents.
