Sometimes teachers want to mark assignments as simply complete (turned in) or incomplete (not turned in). To save time, there should be something in the column of the assignment drop-down that would allow the teacher to "mark complete all who turned something in" and "mark incomplete all who did not turn something in." This feature could be added to the same area where you would see the dropdown for "assignment details" or "Speedgrader" as shown below.

There is a current function that might work well for you? You can scroll through your list and mark all students that did not submit as incomplete, then use the 'set default grade' feature to mark all currently ungraded items (those that submitted) as complete.
