In SpeedGrader, wouldn’t it be nice to have a keyboard shortcut for submitting comments? e.g. Gmail’s shortcut for sending emails is Ctrl+Enter (or Cmd+Enter on Mac). Adding this will allow for a keyboard-only workflow.
Hello, Jerry Hui and Welcome to the Canvas Community! You'll be happy to know that this is already available for keyboard-only users.
The keyboard shortcut in SpeedGrader for leaving a comment is c. After the instructor types the comment into the field, tabbing four times navigates the keyboard-only user to the Submit button, and Enter activates that button to submit the comment.
The instructor can then type k to navigate to the next student in SpeedGrader.
The available keyboard shortcuts will display by clicking on the Gear icon at the upper left of SpeedGrader and selecting Keyboard Shortcuts.
We've marked this idea for archival as it is existing functionality. We hope we will see you again soon, perhaps in our Q & A forum.
Thanks Stefanie Sanders! While four tabs do get me to the Submit button, that is 1) not the simplest way to access one of the most common functions on the page, and 2) a hidden function for users who aren’t used to the convention of tabbing through UI elements.
Since there are already a handful of implemented keyboard shortcuts that are the same as Gmail, wouldn’t it make sense to add Ctrl+Enter for submit?
Yes, it does make sense, Jerry; we'll open the idea for voting.
