In one of my online classes, I require the students to participate in several discussions. Their grade is based on them making original posts, commenting on posts from other students and reading all of the posts made by all of
the students. While in D2L, it had a function that would allow me to see how many posts a student read. Although I can count their posts in Canvas, I need to determine that they have in fact read the other students' comments. A class is supposed to be an interaction of ideas with teacher and all of the students. This helps the students learn. That capability is limited in an online class, but if students are required to read what peers are "saying" that should assist them in learning the subject matter.
