Prior the migration to Quizzes Next--in the log function, teachers were able to view if a student left the quiz tab. This feature is helpful in moderating the quiz when there are concerns of potential cheating, etc. I would love to see Canvas bring this function back to Quizzes Next.
Jenny, just checking back: Have you had a chance to explore the existing solution in New Quizzes that Adam provided?
We just resumed school for the new year and I haven't had the opportunity to give a quiz yet and explore this solution. To clarify, if it states--system details captured that means the students left the quiz/canvas page?
Hey Jenny. I had to do some checking on this because I wasn't exactly sure what it meant compared to what could be meant by "left the [quiz/page]." It turns out that that this entry appears whenever the quiz is opened, so if a student leaves the quiz/page/browser tab by closing it, the entry would appear when they reopen it. However, if the student leaves the quiz open, but does something else in another application or browser tab, it would not appear. If that latter functionality is what you would like to see, please feel free to modify the idea description with that extra detail and I can open the idea back up for voting. I, too, am looking for this functionality. The old quiz did let you know if they simply left the tab/window and for how long and when they came back to the current window. I would, however, also like to request that if this functionality gets brought in that the Canvas system can FLAG it and somehow alert the moderator/teacher. In other words, I tell students that it will log everything including leaving the window to cheat and find an answer and that I will know if they did. The reality, though, is that I simply do not have the time to check the very detailed log of every student to see if this indeed happened. So it would be great if Canvas could send me an alert or somehow put some kind of flag on the screen next to their name or on the grading/moderating screen, etc. This way I can look at that individual specific quiz to check for cheating.

Welcome to the Community! If I'm understanding correctly, I think this is still possible. There is a quiz log you can view in New Quizzes (aka Quizzes.Next). It includes a log entry that I will include a picture of below. Here is a resource on accessing the quiz log in New Quizzes, How do I use the Moderation page in New Quizzes? If that will work for you let me know and I can archive this idea. If you think there is still functionality lacking, let me know and we can work together to modify this idea to describe that functionality.
