I love, love, LOVE Canvas for all the communication and flexibility it affords my high school science classes. It's a powerful inclusive tool for students and their families.
However, many of my students do not live with parents. Some are living with extended families, some with foster families, and some are in the county youth shelter. And they shared with me today that the language on the login page around "parents" hurts them every time they see it.
Switching from "parent" to more inclusive language would send a small but powerful message that Canvas and the learning that Canvas makes possible are for everybody, not just those with the privilege of having a *parent* involved in their schooling.
