Course Storage / File Storage reporting

In an "original course", or "Master Course", the Course Statistics do a wonderful job of reporting the associated content and file information for Totals and File Storage.

However, when that course is copied the new course does not reflect any of this associated content in the course statistics, which can be very misleading for admins and faculty.

I know we use file hashing, and data de-duplication to minimize file redundancy in AWS, so perhaps creating a subset in the course stats that identifies "unique" content vs. "referenced" content per course would be applicable?

It can be confusing & misleading to instructors (and admins) to see that a course has 0 files in storage, when the course contains hundreds of files in its content & file system.

Creating statistics that reflect both the new/unique files and the “old” files that are reference from a copied course would help instructors/admins in managing files in every course.

I found this feature idea while researching more information about the "Course Storage" report. While it's true that the addition of the Course Storage report in July helped to address, literally, a need for course storage / file storage reporting, it did not address the spirit of this request, which was to make it easier for faculty and admins to know how much space is used/left when looking at a particular course. The File Storage area in Settings, and the % status bar in Files still give inaccurate information.

 @tdelillo

You say that

The File Storage area in Settings, and the % status bar in Files still give inaccurate information.

If that is the case, have you reported it as a bug?

Since it's always been that way, I was pretty sure it was known/expected functionality. But I threw in a ticket, and got the response that "Files that are imported from a previous course import or a course copy are not included in the storage quota or file count. For the official documentation regarding this, you can find it on this guide at the bottom."

So it's not a bug, it's just an acceptable inaccuracy?
