Message Students Who feature

Am hoping someone can clear this up for me. Teachers have told me that when they use the Message Students Who feature from the gradebook, the message doesn't go to students as individual messages - ie. students can see the names of other students in the group who have been messaged to say they haven't submitted. That is, it can only go as a group message. I know there is definitely no box to tick for 'send as individual messages' like there is with regular inbox messages. Which means we can't use the feature (which would be such a good feature to use!!).

HOWEVER, when I mentioned this to a Canvas employee recently he said he was almost certain this was not the case and these 'message students who' do go as blind copy individual messages to each student in the group. He was fairly certain but didn't give me a 100% assurance.

Hard for me to test this so thought I would see if anyone can tell me for sure? Has anyone tested this and looked at exactly what students see at the other end.

Thanks
