How do I weight individual assignments within an assignment group by points?
Hi Tim Mullican Welcome to the Canvas Community! The most simple answer I can give you is that the points are the weight within an assignment group. There is as yet no way to have (for example) three assignments each worth 10 points worth 30%, 30%, and 40% within that group. You CAN, however, create weights for each individual assignment group that you create, as covered in this lesson: How do I weight the final course grade based on assignment groups?
Some faculty at my own institution have simply created a weighted assignment group with but ONE item within it. For example: Homework One (10%) with just one assignment in it; Home Two (15%) with just one assignment in it. Cumbersome, yes, but it works. I encourage you to vote "up" the following Feature Idea: assignment weighting in assignment groups , which IS still open for voting, even though it is officially on the Product Radar. (A link on that page will define for you what is meant by the Product Radar.)
I hope this helps a bit, Tim!
Just so I understand you correctly, a 20 point assignment in a group will be weighted double an assignment worth 10 points within the same group. Is that correct?
Yes, sir! There is another discussion (with math!) in a discussion here: Calculation of Weighted Assignment Groups .
