How do I create a banner for my course?
I am going to assume that by Banner for your course, you mean some sort of image to put on the front page of your course. I'm going to start with how to add such an image, but then will also get into some tips for how you might go about creating one.

Last let me try to help with your actual question, "How do I create a banner for my course?". You can use various programs to create a Banner image to use in the process I've included above. One system I like to use is Canva.com. This free site is unrelated to Canvas other than having a similar name. But it's a great tool for easily creating Banner type images. I know a lot of instructional designers who use it to create Banners and other images for use in Canvas. If you start with one of their templates I try to find ones that are short and wide. There are Etsy and Leaderboard templates that I think are a good size. Once you've created the image download it, and then upload and embed it onto your course front page. I've also used Google Draw to create banners and even powerpoint can be used if you set the aspect ratio (size) to something that works and export the slide as a jpg image.
Another good site to be aware of is DaButtonFactory. It's a very simple and free web site where you can create.......... buttons! I often combine a Banner from Canva with Buttons from DaButtonFactory when creating home pages for courses.
I hope that helps a little in answering your question.
