Is it possible to restrict a module to a particular student?

Here is the scenario:  We have had a student request access to earlier modules within a course. This particular course is structured with weekly modules which are unpublished once that week and its activities have ended. It is Week 6.   While the faculty member is still considering whether to allow this, it did cause us to ponder how we might do this.

We are Canvas newbies, so bear with us. The way we see it is...

In order to allow the student to access the earlier modules, the faculty member would need to publish the module and extend due dates and such for that student. In the meantime, all other students who currently see only Module 6, would now see Weeks 1-5 as well. (That would set off a firestorm of emails from confused students.) The faculty member would also need to go into each module, to set due dates and availability dates for that student. That is all do-able, but seems so inefficient.

Are we missing something? Is there a way to allow select students access to a particular module?
