Hello,
I've been assigned a peer review for english class, but it isn't available. My teacher told me to ask about it here.
I agree with everything that Ken wrote and will add my experience last week I assigned a peer review.
According to Canvas documentation: How do I know if I have a peer review assignment to complete? it should have been easy to find for the students.
However, the peer reviews didn't appear on the To Do list. The assignment didn't appear on the To Do list if the assignment due date was already past. When I changed the assignment due date, then the due date showed up on their To Do list (this itself was a bug, I think, because they shouldn't see it since they had already completed it) and they were able to get to the assignment. I changed it back because it really was already past due. The due date for the peer reviews didn't affect this and the available until date hadn't arrived yet. Also note that the due date for the peer reviews was set to the beginning of the day, so choosing Oct 2 without a time made it due at midnight (the beginning of the day) on Oct 2, essentially the end of the day on Oct 1. That caught me off-guard since it was a due date and those default to the end of the day when it's an assignment.
Some of my students found the peer reviews by going into grades and clicking on it, but as soon as someone else had provided a peer review, they weren't able to see which peer reviews needed done, only the feedback they had been provided.
The one reliable way we found was the one Ken mentioned -- going back to the original assignment to get the list. And the only way we could reliable get it to work (this was student testing, not mine, and them telling me verbally what they were seeing without me double checking) was to find the assignment on the modules page.
Hi Christopher Schott
Welcome to the Canvas Community. First off, I wonder if your teacher may have wanted you to check with your local IT/support, since here in the Canvas Community we can't access your instructor's course site or get an idea of what you are seeing, which your local Canvas support could. That said, I will start by recommending the following two lessons from the online student guide, especially this one: How do I know if I have a peer review assignment to complete? And once you find it, check here: How do I submit a peer review to an assignment?
Basically, the best, clear-cut, 100% certain way to see your peer review is:
-Head back to the original assignment where you submitted your own work.
-On the far right, immediately underneath your submission, you should see Assigned Peer Reviews with clickable links. This is illustrated in that first link that I gave to you.
Additionally, it is possible--depending on the timing of all this--that the student you have been assigned to peer review has not submitted his/her own original submission yet. But if you do the above steps outlined on the original assignment page, you should be able to tell.
I hope this helps, Christopher!
