Is there a way to get statistics from an assignment with a rubric? I'd like to be able to measure specific student strengths and weaknesses based on the collection of data in the rubric.
Hi Lori Zaremba Welcome to the Canvas Community. I agree, that would be a cool feature. Unfortunately, this is not currently possible and Kelley L. Meeusen's reply to a similar question over a year ago is still accurate: Report and export of rubric data for accreditation . Kelley has some links to current Feature Ideas that are still available to be voted upon, so I encourage you to check those out. As you may also see in the replies, there is a really cool blog post by Garth Egbert that offers an API solution: Rubric Analysis Using the API . But unless you know API--or someone at your institution who does--that may not help.
The closest, current potential solution is using Outcomes within a class. You can read about them starting here: How do I create an outcome for a course? Typically, Outcomes are more for departmental purposes--since instructors can embed Outcomes created at the departmental level into their own rubrics--and the department, then, can run an Outcome report for all students who were assessed using that Outcome. For a specific, course-created outcome, however, the best the instructor can do is run their own Outcome report, albeit on a student-by-student basis. (See How do I view the outcomes results report for an individual student in a course? ) But--to toss yet another term at you--one can also use course-created Outcomes with the Learning Mastery Gradebook, which allows you to get a slightly bigger picture of things: How do I use the Learning Mastery Gradebook to view outcome results in a course? The Learning Mastery gradebook is something that may or may not have been enabled at your own institution; you can check.
(Sorry to toss all those terms and links at you, but I figured that may be a better better than just saying "Nope! Can't do that!")
