One of our instructors has the option "Submission to view" within SpeedGrader. I do not have this and want to know how to obtain it.
Hi Pamela Pourciau Welcome to the Canvas Community! The "Submission to View" drop-down menu will only appear in SpeedGrader at those times that the student has more than one submission for an assignment where an online submission was required. This is outlined here, under the Evaluation Multiple Submissions heading: https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-13088-415255024 . Therefore, it will not appear AT ALL unless the student re-submitted the assignment in question.
So, to directly answer your question, you're only going to obtain it if a student re-submitted something! (And, I might add, many students are unaware there even IS the ability to re-submit something...which is covered in general on this page from the student online guide.) Also, students will not be able to re-submit something after an UNTIL date...assuming one was set while setting up the assignment. Students can always re-submit something, but not after the UNTIL date.
I hope this helps a bit, Pamela!
Hi, Stephanie. Not following why one instructor had this option and the students only submitted an exam once. She graded it on Speedgrader and when she added fudge points (when needed), the Submission to view box was there so she could click it, see what their grade was before she made a grade change and again, after she made a grade change.

One of our instructors has this option. She developed a test/exam within a course, administered the exam, and later had to go back and edit an answer and correct each student’s test, using SpeedGrader. She had the drop down box “Submission to View” under each student’s name. However, I do not have that on any of my tests. Not understanding why one person has this option. It allows the instructor to view the grade before an edit was made and after it was made. Thanks!
Hi Pamela Pourciau - Ah, interesting! And in fact, you helped answer your own question. A regrade will also cause that behavior. I just tested this on a sample course site. The student took it, but I then changed an answer. Presto! There is now a Submission to view drop-down menu. Take a close look at the most recent submission. Odds are, the question where your instruction had to change an answer now has something like this one top of the question in SpeedGrader:
Interestingly, this does not seem to be in the documentation (though I may have missed something), though a screen similar to this is shown here in the instructor's guide showing the student's view of the quiz: https://community.canvaslms.com/docs/DOC-12823-4152457763 .
But yes, a regrade WILL indeed trigger that drop-down menu, as well! Hey...I just learning something myself! Thanks!
