Is there a way to notify students that I have posted a comment on their submitted assignment page? I have been leaving comments but they do not seem to see them unless they go looking for them (which most do not do). Thanks!!
Hi Linda and welcome to the Community! Are you referring to comments made in SpeedGrader? If they are left in the general assignment comment box, then the student should be notified provided they have the option for submission comments indicated in their notifications (see https://s3.amazonaws.com/tr-learncanvas/docs/CanvasNotifications.pdf ). By default I believe ours are set to notify someone of a submission comment immediately.
This is different, however, for comments made on the document itself in SpeedGrader. Notifications are not currently sent about these, but that may be changing. In this idea, Making feedback more visible to students, there is a note indicating:
"This idea has been added to our product plan for Q2 2019 and will influence development within Canvas. Follow this idea to receive updates as they are available, and check out The specified item was not found.
Adding this idea to our product plan means we will be working on it, but it does not guarantee that it will be developed exactly as defined by the idea, or that it will be added to the production environment.

It still may be good to vote this idea up, as well as this one Notify Students When DocViewer Annotations Have Been Left By a Teacher.
If you are referring to comments left on the document itself, I normally have a comment typed in Word that I copy/paste in the general comment box for each submission that reminds them to check the document itself for comments/feedback and that if they response in the document to let me know since teachers are not currently notified of these either.
I hope this helps but if not please let us know if it doesn't!
Thanks Eric! Yes, it is the comments I make in speed grader which may only
be "great job on this" which is nice if they see it but not essential, or
"You are missing
As Eric mentioned, some of the feedback is not very visible to students (such as annotations on documents in SpeedGrader). We recommend that instructors provide students with steps for locating their Grades and Feedback, so created this page containing the steps for all types of feedback: Grades & Feedback.
