why my messages or announcements are not reaching my students via canvas?
Hi Ranu Roy
This is very hard to diagnose without access to your course, which we Community members do not have. Have you talked with your school's Canvas Admin/Support department? I found UNL's Online and Distance Education page for faculty, which should provide the contact info for help.
Could you explain further, please?
If you are creating announcements for the Course Announcement area, are your students not seeing those announcements? How do I add an announcement in a course?
Please help us understand exactly what is or is not happening, and we can likely help you.
I have used canvas earlier via my institution. This time I am using the site outside my institution as many of the students who are taking the course don't have institutional ID. Regarding reaching out to my students, I asked one of them if they are receiving my messages/ announcements- one of them replied in negative. That's why I am bit concerned!
Is this question based off of just one or two students who said they were not getting the messages?
If so, it may be that the students don't know how to check properly. I sometimes ask my students if they got a message I sent them and some will say no. Then I ask one of my students who knows how to use Canvas and checks their email and they say "yes."
We do not have fake students in our classes and sometimes the "Student View" in Canvas doesn't look and act the same as it does for a real student. When I am unsure how something was showing up to students, I ask one of them to show me their screen in Canvas so I could see for myself.
I once had a student where I have carried on a one-way conversation through submission comments for 90% of a semester. I kept suggesting improvements she could make in her work and she never took my advice and I was getting frustrated that she wasn't taking the feedback when I was spending a lot of time writing it. It wasn't until the end of the term that she figured out where the submission comments were located.
The point is that you may want to double check and possibly show them what to look for to make sure it's not a human issue rather than a Canvas issue.
Thank you. I think that can be the issue as well. I will check with other students as well.
