Hey, All! I'd like to create a quiz from a question bank, then be able to export that quiz into a printable format so I can provide physical quizzes to some students. Does this make sense? Any ideas?
Thank you in advance!
Hi Daniel Mello - Unfortunately there is not a direct way to do this within Canvas, but there are some solutions out there that will work. First, you are correct that you will have to create a quiz from the bank first; no tool that I am aware of will print out every question within a bank. Also, no tool will exactly support randomization: it will print out one question, and the next time you print it out it will print out the same question. (I think..!)
A nice, free way to do this is by installing the Tampermonkey extension to the Chrome browser and following the instructions given here: Print Canvas Quizzes UserScript . I have used this myself for many faculty and it works like a charm. Be sure to read all of the comments below the initial post, however, as the script has been updated a few times.
A commercial solution to check to see if your institution has a license for is Respondus 4.0: Exam Authoring Tool . While it is indeed an authoring tool, it also allows one to export a printable version of a quiz from Canvas. Again, however, the same caveats apply: it won't work with randomization, and there are certain question types it will not support. You may want to visit that page, anyway, since a single-user license is $79, but by all means try it out first.
HOWEVER--and that is a big however--neither of those links above will presently work for the upcoming (and released, at some institutions) version of the new quiz engine in Canvas, Quizzes.Next, which you can follow by joining this group: New Quizzes User Group . (From the Actions menu at the upper-right, click Join Group.) All future developments of the quiz engine are being devoted to that version.
As you might image, your are not the first person to want this. I encourage you to vote up--and comment on--the following two Feature Ideas: Printable / PDF-exportable quizzes and Exporting quizzes into Word or pdf documents .
I hope this helps a bit, Daniel!
Okay, I'll try the Chrome option.
My institution is working on setting up Respondus.
Happy to help, Daniel!
Thanks, again! Unfortunately, I've followed the steps, but get no 'Print' button, similar to one of the last people to respond in this thread; Print Canvas Quizzes UserScript
Any thoughts/ideas? I don't have any pop-up blockers/ad blockers running. My quiz is unpublished. Does that matter?
