How do I add "Commons" to new users in our system?
How do I create Sandboxes for new users in our system?
Vanessa, greetings! As far as I'm aware, if you have access to Commons, your users should also have access. I will admit that it's been a while since this got turned on, so I might be missing something.
As for creating sandboxes, here's the guide for creating courses in Canvas - How do I add a course in an account as an admin?
What we do is create the course, label it in the title as a "sandbox" and then also add it to our "Sandbox" subaccount (How do I create a sub-account?). You don't have to create a sub-account for these courses, but we have just so we can keep them organized from our regular courses.
Hope this helps!
Hi, Vanessa Jones, with regard to sandboxes, if you’re an admin who is comfortable with doing some customization to your Canvas instance, I saw this very handy micro LTI demonstrated at an InstructureCon Hack Night a few years ago. According to the code developers, this code places a “Create Sandbox” button on every instructor’s dashboard, and the courses created by instructors are automatically put in a designated sub-account—which effectively automates the process Kona has described. You can read more about this at GitHub - CUOnline/sandbox: LTI tool that generates sandbox courses in Canvas
Hi Vanessa Jones
I will add to what the awesome Kona and equally awesome Stefanie have said with some guides for Commons.
As a Canvas Admin, you will want to look through the Canvas Commons Guide, and specifically at these to get started........
