I have accidentally imported the wrong course into an active class in my institution. Is there a way to delete an entire import so that I can upload the correct course?
Lori, there is no undo button for a course import. You could go through the entire course and manually remove all of the unwanted content. However, if this had happened to me, I'd contact Canvas Support immediately (How do I get help with Canvas as an instructor? Our support agents can sometimes work miracles.
Stefanie Sanders - Hmm; resetting should remove all imported content, even though it technically does not "undo" it, per se. Is there something you know that I don't??
Hi Lori Campbell - This is easy-peasy assuming you have the rights to do this in a class at your institution. Follow the instructions here: How do I reset course content? Note that any enrollments in the course are NOT affected. If you do not see the button shown in the guide, your friendly neighborhood Canvas support person should be able to do this for you.
I get this question all the time from my own faculty, so you are in good company in doing this!
Hope this helps, Lori!
Ken, do your faculty members reset course content for active courses? Do students' submissions and discussion replies repopulate when the faculty member re-imports the correct content for the course? I always thought of this as the nuclear option and stay away from it unless I'm working in a sandbox.
You're right Stefanie Sanders - I was assuming from the time of year that it's not "active" insofar as actively teaching it, but only active in that the course is otherwise available and enrollments are in the course. (Also, an actively taught course should probably not be going through an import, either, quite frankly! :-) Notifications galore for all the students!) But indeed, I was perhaps too quick to assume things.
I'm relieved, though, Ken, and I too was quick to assume (or more accurately, I misread Lori's question); I was thinking that Lori meant to import some content to the active course, but imported the wrong content—not the other way around (right content, wrong destination course).
Yes! Resetting Course content worked. Thank you!
Whew, I'm glad to hear that, Lori. I understood "active course" to mean one that contains not only enrollments but also students' assignment submissions and other course contributions.
