I am investigating potential of creating online or hybrid classes. What software can I use within the canvas shell I've created?
Hi Kevin! This is a great question and one with potentially many possible answers! So you know, because there likely isn't a right/wrong answer I converted this from a question to a discussion.
I have worked at two institutions now that have moved from another LMS to Canvas. In both instances Canvas has been used for both hybrid/blended and fully online courses. At one institution, we created fully online degrees while at another we have fewer fully online options but many instructors creating hybrid courses. Since faculty here must use Canvas in all undergraduate courses, more and more are starting to integrate online components into their classes.
Regarding what software you can use with Canvas, the sky really is the limit. Here are just a few of the applications I know that we are using directly within Canvas: Panopto (lecture-capture), Nuro (early alert), aPlus+ (attendance tracking), SmartEval (end of course evaluations), all publisher content (Pearson, McGraw-Hill, Cengage, etc.), TurningPoint and Poll Everywhere (student response) and TurnItIn (plagiarism checker).
There are likely many other tools being used that I am unaware of, particular those done through LTI integration. Here are a few other posts that you might find interesting:

There are many great teachers and instructional designers part of the Community. I'm sure that many will have additional suggestions and thoughts, but hopefully this is helpful.
