What is the difference between a TA and an observer in a Canvas course?
Hi Jane Walford,It depends on what you want the person to do! An Observer can view the course material, but they cannot submit or grade assignments, see course rosters, etc. The observer role is usually used for situations where a parent or similar person wants to monitor course content or progress for a specific student. This article has more details about what things the observer can and cannot access: What is the Observer role?A TA has more access. They can add or change course material, grade assignments, etc. Check out: What is the Teacher Assistant role?So if you have someone who wants to see your course or monitor the progress of a student/s, or check out the way your organize content, but you don't want them to be able to see confidential information (grades, course roster), and don't want them to be able to change or edit anything in the course, you may want to put that person in as an observer. If you want someone to be able to help you grade, be able to interact with students, change or edit course material and grades, you may want to put that person in as a TA.
Hope that helps!
Perfect! Thank You!
