I'm getting started with badges and can't find the link " Badges" in my cours as stated in the instructions.
Hi Leticia Hernandez Welcome to the Canvas Community!
Soon after July 2018, the Badgr badging tool became available for Canvas. It is a tool you must install, but you do not need the assistance of your Canvas Admin to install the basic tool at the course level. You can learn more at Badgr LTI
As Michael Zimmerman has noted, some schools restrict faculty from installing their own LTIs at the course level. If this is the case at your school, then you will need to cantact your Canvas Admin.
Let us know if you need more help with this.
Can you clarify what instructions you are looking at?
There is no badging tool built into Canvas. Pretty much any badging tool is something that must be installed and configured on your school's Canvas instance by you Canvas administrator. You may want to contact the Help Desk or Canvas Support at your school to confirm whether or not there is a badging tool installed on your Canvas instance.
That may not be true, if the school's Canvas server is set up to not allow instructors to install their own LTIs (as ours is).
Thanks for the heads-up Michael
I am thinking that this (your setup) would be an exception. Most Canvas instances are cloud based on AWS, and only a small percentage are server installed at a school.
Although, I could be wrong..
It's not really a question of being locally installed vs. being in AWS. Rather, it's the permissions/security settings granted to instructors. A lot of institutions have accessibility and data security policies that require LTIs to be reviewed and approved before they're installed in Canvas, so they turn off the "LTI - add/edit/delete" permission for teachers.
