So I noticed that google drive is now one of the options for registered tools. Which makes me wonder if it is possible to start a google slides collaboration under the collaborations tab in canvas?
George, right now Collaborations in Canvas only works with Google Docs. Yet, there is a feature idea for adding Google Slides that is under consideration - Collaborations: Add Google Slides. My students use Google Doc's, Sheets, and Slides and it doesn't seem to be a huge deal for them to just create the sheets and slides from their Drive and not Collaborations. Yet, I would LOVE it if Collaborations could include more than just Docs!
I did see that feature idea Collaborations: Add Google Slides however voting is now closed. It seems like this should be a relatively easy addition, right?
By the way, how do I post this as a new "idea"...?
George, because Instructure has already replied to the original feature idea (and has it under consideration) there is no need to post this as a new idea; if you did it would just get archived and you'd be directed back to the original idea.
What you can do is comment on the original feature idea - lending your support and examples of how useful/helpful this would be - and follow the idea. This way you'll be alerted to any updates with the idea.
As to the ease of adding this functionality, I'm not a programmer, but I'm married to a programmer who often comes up with Canvas hacks and he's said that many seemingly easy things can actually be really difficult to implement. <-- He's actually said this a number of times. In addition, Canvas only has a certain amount of resources that have to be distributed across everything that needs done (including bug fixes, regular maintenance, new features, and enhancements to current features). A great place to poke around if you're interested in what Canvas is working on and how they are currently prioritizing things can be found here - The specified item was not found.
Hope this helps!
