The global navigation icon is missing from the left menu on a student computer. How to resolve this?
Check the high-contrast setting for the user; that disables institutional branding.
Hi Terra Walker
Actually, global Navigation is a vertical column of icons on the far left, but let's not quibble..............
It is most likely that your student has collapsed Global Navigation and it is now displaying as a thin bar. You can learn how to restore here, near bottom of page:How do I use the Global Navigation Menu as a student?
Alternately, it may just be that your student is accessing Canvas with an older, unsupported browser. Which browsers does Canvas support?
I hope this helps,
Thank you for the suggestions. The menu is not collapsed, as all other
icons appear. Also she is using Google Chrome, and it is a

There is no single specific Icon called Global Navigation unless your school created a custom one. If that is the case, you will need to talk with your school's Canvas Admin.
Could you beam me up a screenshot?
This is the standard Global navigation menu................

Anyone else having the same issue? If not, does the user run any sort of adblocker?
In your screenshot, I see the Global Navigation menu. As I said above, there is no standard "Global Navigation" icon in the Canvas UI, so was this "icon" a custom install by your school? I am not understanding the use if it was, because Global Navigation is a series of icons to achieve that purpose. Of course, perhaps your school accesses Canvas through a larger single-sign-on portal and created a Global Navigation icon so that users could return that portal and its associated content.
I believe Terra is referring to the Icon in the top left corner. Ours is our school logo. Your screenshot (and Terra's) don't have them.
The very first icon, Canvas logo, appears for me but not one of our

Please ask the user to try a different browser or computer. This will isolate if this is something with that computer/browser configuration - which is the most likely scenario.
Hi, Terra Walker.
Clicking on the Dashboard icon has the same effect as clicking on the school logo.
Thanks Anthony Bunag, We had our school logo up there until some release or another broke our branding, and never went back to fix it.
So Terra Walker, Did my friend Anthony call it? If so, I would talk with your Canvas Admin to see if the same thing happened at your school that happened at ours, and they just need to replace/repair that custom bit of coding.
Rat finks, Valerie Rake, I have had my account set at high contrast for so long, that I forgot that behavior! Now I feel stupid!
As Nelson Ricardo pointed out, that icon is redundant, so not really important other than it's "OMG it's Gone!" wow factor.
