How do I send e-mails to my teacher thru canvas
Hello Frank Neal Welcome to the Canvas Community. I see that you've been a member here since late August, but you may not have posted anything until now. Here's what I can tell you...
First off...Canvas does not have e-mail. Rather, they refer to it as "messaging" or "conversations" (found in the Canvas "Inbox"). Allow me to explain. Every user has an "Inbox" in Canvas where they can receive message from other people (instructors and/or students) who are enrolled in the same course as that person.
There are a number of Guides available to you about Conversations, so I would encourage you to take a look at this page:
Or, if you would like to watch a quick video: Conversations Overview (All Users)
In addition to the above, it's also important to understand that when sending a message via the "Inbox", the receiver of that message may not receive it via e-mail. Again, allow me to explain. Every user also has the ability (within their own Canvas profile) to choose how they want to be notified (school e-mail, personal e-mail, text message, Twitter, etc.) and the frequency of those notifications. So, for example, I may choose to only be notified via a text message when a message is sent to me via Canvas, but you may prefer to receive a copy of a message sent to you via Canvas to your personal e-mail account. So, there are a variety of ways that any user can choose to receive notifications (including messages) about certain events in Canvas...but those notifications may not always come via e-mail. It's completely up to the user to decide how he/she wants to be notified of those things. Here are a few Guides that explain this in more detail:
How do I add contact methods to receive Canvas notifications as a student?
How do I add an additional email address as a contact method in Canvas as a student?
How do I add a text (SMS) contact method in Canvas as a student?
How do I set my Canvas notification preferences as a student?
I would recommend that you look through the first three Guides depending on how you want to be notified about things in Canvas. Then, look through the fourth link to set up the frequency of those notifications.
I hope this information is helpful to you, Frank! Please let us know if you have any questions about the above.
