New to using Canvas, so how do I view a student's powerpoint that has been submitted? I want to see the transitions and animations added.
Hi Michael Wildmon Welcome to the worldwide Canvas Community. I see you joined in the Community back in May, but that this is your first post. And I think you will enjoy using Canvas. And one great thing with Canvas (besides this Community, of course) is that Canvas has exceptionally fine documentation, which I will refer to.
I used to teach a Computer Information Systems course, and I can tell you from my own experience of having students submitting a PowerPoint that while the SpeedGrader will show you the content, it will not show you the transitions, animations, sounds, etc. You pretty much HAVE to download the student's individual PowerPoints and open them up within PowerPoint itself to grade them.
You have two options to download. If you are comfortable with ZIP files and unzipping them, the easiest way is to use the Download All Submissions link from the assignment itself. That is covered here: How do I download all student submissions for an assignment? Alternatively, you can do essentially the same process from the Gradebook, as covered here: How do I download all student submissions for an assignment in the Gradebook?
If you are not comfortable with zip files, you can download the original submission one-by-one while within the SpeedGrader. The place to do that from (which, I have to say, is not immediately obvious!) is shown on this page: How do I use SpeedGrader? but specifically under the View Sidebar heading. Check the screenshot there, specifically under item number 3.
So again, while you can see the content of the PowerPoint itself and, if you wish, make a comment on it within the DocViewer in SpeedGrader, it will not help with the animations. For that you must download.
I hope this helps a bit, Michael!
