Is there a way to have Canvas email weekly reminders for students to join in a weekly discussion?
Hello JoAnn. I am not aware of any option for setting up announcements or events that automatically repeat every week. However, you could create assignments while your class is unpublished and set a different posting date for each of these. This way, after the course has been published, an announcement would be sent each week after you set them up one time. I created 15 announcements in less than 10 minutes the other day, so particularly if you are copying and pasting the same message, this process can go very quickly. I will include links to a couple of useful documents below. I hope this helps!
What are Announcements?
How do I add an announcement in a course?
How do I delay posting an announcement until a specific date in a course?
Hey JoAnn Schmedding Welcometo the Canvas Community. Eric has given some great recommendations and I would add that you may also be interested How do I duplicate an event in the Calendar as an instructor?
One more thing about emails from Canvas that can cause confusion or frustration is that each user can configure their notification preferences however they like. So in most cases it is impossible to guarantee an actual email goes out. So in both cases (announcements or calendar events), unless you instruct students on how to configure their notification preferences, there is always a chance that they will only receive a notification in Canvas, but not get or see the email.
I am going to mark this question as 'assumed answered' in the system here, but do not let that stop you from letting us know how this is working out for you. We look forward to seeing you again!
