Do you use badges for Professional Development? If you do, are they fun (for gamification purposes) or are they more like a certification? (please tell us how you use them in the comments!
I would like to start using badging both for professional development and in the courses I teach. However, as I was discussing recently in the article linked to below, I find it problematic that there seems to be little consensus on where and how to host such things in order for individuals to get credit for what they have accomplished. For now, our department is using a system that awards traditional certificates and also generates a transcript of completed training. http://associationsnow.com/2016/08/can-associations-attract-millennials-with-credentialing/
We are getting just getting started with badging!
This is an older topic, but I just joined the group so I thought I would share. We are using Canvas and Badges for PD. Right now the badges are awarded off-line only. We print them out and inter office mail them to the recipients. However, we are looking to add digital badges/linked micro-credentials to our system.
Teachers, Staff Members, and even Administration can all earn badges and CPE through our courses. We have built courses by category: GAFE, PLNs, Digital Formative Assessment, Creation, etc. Each course has level one badges and Power User badges. Level one badges are based on the teacher/staff/admin as the end user while PU badges are how they turn the technology around with their learners. All badges are earned have at least one hands-on component that must be submitted as a learning artifact.
