Course Role Permission to create Announcements?

Hi,

I'm looking to modify one of my custom course roles to give them permission to post new announcements to the course.    Which of the permissions is needed to allow this?

I think you would need to give that custom course role the "Send messages to the entire class" permission.  When I tested this out, the user was given the Announcements option in the navigation menu.

I've tried this, with no luck. I've tried every setting I can think of that might be connected to creating announcements.

According to the Canvas Course Role Permissions - Instructure Community document, It should be the "Discussions - moderate" permission that's needed for a role to create announcements.  I have lobbied for years for Instructure to separate Announcement creation out, as there are many scenarios where we'd like for someone to be able to create announcements in a course, but not give them permission to moderate/edit discussions and discussion posts, but so far things are still not very granular in this area.  This is likely something you'll want to consider before enabling that permission for your course roles.

YES! That finally worked. I had enabled every other discussion-related permission and didn't even think of Moderate. Thanks so much!
