I have been testing out exporting tests & question pools from Blackboard into Canvas. While most things seem to come over correctly, one thing I haven't been able to figure out is hotspot questions.
I imported a test from Blackboard into Canvas using the classic quizzes, and the quiz engine notified me that hotspot questions weren't supported using the classic quizzes engine. I changed my quiz engine over to new quizzes, exported the pool from Blackboard as a QTI 2.1 file, then imported the content into the new quiz. Unlike the classic quiz, the new quiz did not even import the hotspot questions. It simply ignored them when it imported the other questions. Was there something I missed in the process?
If this is a feature that isn't supported, that is fine. I'm trying to set expectations for our faculty when they try to import their tests. If only certain question types will import (multiple choice, true/false, fill-in-the-blank, essay, etc.), that will be helpful for them to know, and hopefully reduce any anxiety that could arise during our move.
Good morning, @MikeBrinkman ...
That's a great question! Unfortunately, I'm not sure that I have an answer for you. I did find this Guide:
...and although it indicates how to import a QTI file, it is less clear on what kinds of question types will convert from one LMS to another. You might want to use the "share your feedback" link at the bottom of that Guide (underneath the "Ask a Question" and "View Related Guides" buttons) to submit your feedback to the Canvas Documentation Team so that you can request they add some additional clarification if you feel it would be helpful to others reading this Guide.
Also, if you try contacting the folks at the Canvas Help Desk, they may have some internal documentation they could share with you on exactly what question types import properly from one LMS to another in New Quizzes. You can contact them by following the instructions in this Guide: How do I get help with Canvas as an instructor? - Canvas Community.
I hope this information will be of some help to you. Sing out if you have any other questions...thanks! Take care...be well.
