New Students Mid-year: Can we adjust their Assignments view?

With an option for remote learning this year, we have students leaving their in-person classrooms and joining new online teachers throughout the year. When this happens, those students see ALL assignments in their To Do list, including those that were from earlier in the year when they were not a part of the course. This is causing anxiety for many students/families, as they try to keep track of their work.

Is it possible to hide those previous assignments from the student view or adjust the student's 'start date' in the course so that they only see relevant assignments from their start date moving forward?

I don't know of an automatic way to do this or anyway to adjust it by start date. The only way to do this that I know of is for the teacher to mark the past assignments as excused in the gradebook, I think they will be removed from the to-do list.  It would be a lot of work to do manually, but might not be too bad if you downloaded the gradebook and entered the excused grade and then imported the changes back to the gradebook.

@gnoack Yes, teachers have been marking assignments as exempt manually, but it was laborious and not a feasible solution for a backlog of 4+ months of assignments. The download/upload might be a viable alternative, though. Thanks for the idea!
