Hi everyone,
the issue our teachers are having is that while a student had previously had access and were added to the course, they suddenly did not have access to it anymore. Upon looking at the list, the teacher did not notice the student in the class list anymore, so therefore they tried to re-add the student from to the course. Upon adding the email to the "Add People" page, the confirmation prompt shows another's student's email that is currently added to the course. After confirming the prompt, the student's email is not added successfully to the course and still cannot be found in the list.
Therefore several students have lost access to their account and the course materials, but the system seems to think their email is another student's email in the list and therefore they cannot be added. This has occurred twice to at least twice to two different people in the course so far.
Are there any recommendations to fix this issue? I had previously send in a ticket and did not get a reply for many weeks.
Thanks in advance!
Does your institution sync your Canvas instance with a Student Information System? If so, it sounds like the import may be changing student enrollments and or user information. If you are a Canvas Admin in the system, when you look at the "People" at the system level, do the username, emails, and actual names match correctly for the students you are trying to add back?
It could be that the usernames are like off one cell in the upload and therefore students are not actually logging in to their account and maybe seeing a different student. Just some thoughts.
Hi, we do not sync with a Student Information System. The system seems to think that for example a@test.com and b@test.com are the same email. So when you search up a@test.com, it is the b@test.com entry that shows up. Looking at the entry details, there's no mention of a@test.com in any of the details.
That is a good one...
I am curious if you switch the course to an enroll course (go to "settings" -> at the bottom choose "More Options" and then check the box) and share the link to the student, if it lets them enroll themselves in the course and what email it tries to associate with them.
I no longer even see the People tab to be able to add students.
Hello @IvanniaSoto ...
If you are unable to see the "People" button in your course, first check to make sure it is enabled in your course. (Even if it was disabled, you would normally see a crossed-out eye icon next to it.) How do I manage Course Navigation links?
If you do not see the "People" button at all in your course, you may need to have a conversation with your school's Canvas administrator or someone from your school's Online Learning / eLearning / Distance Education department. Not every school allows their faculty/instructors to enroll students on their own. Many schools have a back-end process via their SIS (Student Information System) that connects to Canvas that handles all enrollments. This may be the case for your school.
Hopefully you'll be able to have a conversation with colleagues at your school soon to get this resolved. Good luck to you!
Hi there, makme...
