Hello,
I am a Social Science and History teacher which means marking many, many essays! Assignment submissions are no problem to grade using the Speedgrader annotation tools, especially on iPad. However, the problem comes in when having to mark assessments in quizzes. I need to be able to annotate directly onto the quiz submission in order for my marking to be meaningful to the students. Because Quizzes does not have this feature, I have to download and save every quiz submission as a pdf, mark it using a pdf annotator and then re-upload as a comment attachment in speedgrader. This is very time-consuming when there are 80+ papers to grade. Canvas has so many great features but it seems that this vital feature has been overlooked. Please add this feature to Quizzes, I know many language and humanities teachers at my school would be SO grateful.
It seems Canvas may have added this feature recently, but now my students can't see the annotations I made using the annotation in SpeedGrader. Is there a fix in the works?
I'm having the same problem--my students and I can't see any of the annotations I made on our computers.
The students will be able to view annotations made to assignment uploads. They need to go to their submission, and just to the right of their submission they can click "view feedback". It is tricky to find this, though.
I haven't seen this feature on the Quiz speedgrader, only for assignment uploads. I would love to know how to access this if you have found it! We are currently grading 300+ History papers and have to download each submission to pdf in order to grade effectively.

Please!
It's not just humanities; we all need to be able to have essay questions on exams, and it has to be through quizzes, not assignments, so that we can have multiple question types and use our proctoring service. Neither annotation tools nor rubrics work with essay questions in the quizzes tool. The comments box is woefully insufficient to give feedback on an essay.
Please help.
I'm currently on #24 of 86 exams, and it's taking an eternity to grade these things. I don't want to have to abandon solid pedagogy (written answers) because the technology won't let me grade in a reasonable time frame, but holy cow, this is taking at least 4x as long as it took me to grade the same answers on an in-class exam! I can't keep doing this!
We need it in science and math courses too. Our teachers would like students to write out chemical equations, formulas, or draw a shape on Quizzes. This would allow them to eliminate needing to use paper assessments completely.
Hello there, everyone...
In reading through this conversation, it seems like you are requesting enhancements to the current Classic Quizzes interface (if I am reading things correctly?). As you may know, Instructure really isn't doing any more development on the current Classic Quizzes interface, as they are concentrating their development on New Quizzes. I would suggest that you start a new Feature Idea here in the Community website so that others here can review the Idea and see if it is something they would also like to see implemented in the Canvas LMS. You may find that an existing Feature Idea already exists...in which case, you could add your comments to that one instead of creating something brand new. Also, you can give existing Feature Ideas a star rating. Here are some documents that might help with the Feature Idea creation process:
I hope these resources will be of some help to you.
I would love to have "annotation" be added to the New Quizzes so that students can write in chemical equations or solve a math problem when given an assessment.
