Why can't I add a "new" quiz to a module? It doesn't show up in the list.#new quiz
Solved! Go to Solution.
I found that you have to go to assignments and get it, not quizzes.
Hi @kimberly_engel ,
Thanks for your question! Are you using New Quizzes? If so, does your quiz display in the list of assignments in the Add Item window in the module?
Thanks,
Emily
I am using new quizzes and it does not display in the list

I'm glad to hear you were able to add the quiz to your module, @kimberly_engel ! I've sent a note to our Canvas documentation team to make sure this info is included in our Guides.
Let us know if there's anything else we can help you with!

Do we see this getting corrected or will it stay this way? I've spent the last four months training a whole bunch of faculty to use Canvas and one little glitch like this could rock the whole boat. These folks are a bit on edge anyway so anything we can do to lighten their load is much appreciated.
I have migrated two quizzes and neither one shows up in the assignment list under the Migrated Quiz header 🙁
You not only need to go to "assignments" to see the new quiz, but the quiz also needs to be published. I couldn't find it to add to my module until I published the quiz.
My published ,migrated quizzes do not appear under the Migrated Quizzes header of the list of Assignments when I try to add them as an assignment to a module.
@plannan ...
When you were trying to add one of your migrated New Quizzes to your course module, did you try looking under the "Quizzes" instead of the "Assignments"?
I migrated the quizzes over from classic quizzes.
I published them.
And I can find them in the Quizzes section of Canvas.
But, when I go to add them to a module, after I click on the + button, they do not appear among the quizzes or among the assignments. I see a header that says "Migrated Quizzes" among the assignments. But, I do not see the two quizzes I have migrated to new quizzes.
@plannan ...
Sorry for the dumb question...and maybe you are doing this already, but are you being sure to scroll down the list of assignment and/or quiz names when trying to add it to your module? If you have a long list of items already in your course, you may need to scroll. Again, you may already be doing this, but want to rule out possibilities. Also, this shouldn't matter, but it's also worth a shot... try out a Canvancement (Canvas Enhancement) by @James called How to List Items Alphabetically when Adding to a ... - Instructure Community (canvaslms.com). This has helped me a lot when I have built courses...just being able to find things easily when I add them to modules.
Keep us posted...thanks!
Yes, I scrolled through the whole list 🙂
@plannan ...
Hmmm...give James' script a try to see if it's any different. Beyond that, I think you're going to need to reach out to Canvas Support.
I haven't looked into the situation of migrated new quizzes yet, but I wanted to make sure that you had refreshed your modules page after the quizzes had finished migrating. A common problem (it hit me again last week and I've been using Canvas for 10 years and know better), is that the list of module items is delivered with the page and not loaded dynamically when needed. That means that if you, like I did, have multiple tabs open and one of them was the modules page, that things that happen after the modules page is loaded will not be available until I refresh the modules page.
I'm guessing it's something more sinister than that and I'll try to see if I can duplicate what you're seeing here in a little bit, but I wanted to get that out there. If it's not what you're seeing, it may help someone else some day.
I did some testing after writing my other message. I took an existing quiz from the same course and migrated it. I changed the name to make sure that I could identify it. I did not publish it.
I reloaded my modules page (as I mentioned in my other post) to make sure that it had any recent changes.
Under the Assignments category, there is a subheading for Migrated Quizzes and Quizzes. Both of those were blank.
I changed the Assignments category to Quiz. When I scrolled down, both the classic quiz (with the original title) and the new quiz (with the changed title) were present.
It turns out that I did not need to change the name to tell them apart. Canvas now adds (classic) to the end of any classic quiz and leaves the title alone for any New Quiz.
In short, it looks like Quizzes (classic or new) cannot be added from the Assignments list, you need to switch to the Quiz list.
I like it. It makes my Assignments list a whole lot shorter.
