Summary
The badge creation and editing experience in Canvas Credentials is updated to include clearer field organization, helpful text in more intuitive places, improved modal behavior, easier certificate template selection, and a more consistent look and feel across the interface.
Note: These updates do not affect badge awarding logic or metadata requirements—they simply improve consistency and reduce friction in the creation process.
Change Benefit
This update simplifies badge creation and editing with clearer helper text placement, easier template selection, smoother image uploads, and quicker skill tagging. It also brings the interface in line with other Instructure products.
Feature Workflow
When editing or creating a badge, the Basic info section is renamed Badge essentials [1]. Achievement types, Skills, Tags and Expiration are grouped in sections [2]. Descriptions display in each section [3] and Section fields display text with Markdown formatting [4].
In the Print Certificates tab, template sections display in collapsible sections [1] with template previews [2] and checkbox selection [3] Canceling an image upload returns users to the badge workflow instead of exiting the process. Tab-level error counters are removed for a cleaner, less cluttered interface.
Tags can be added using comma-separated entry, allowing multiple tags to be entered at once.
In the Skills section, selected skills are displayed as tags.
When adding a new Flexible Skill or Standard Alignment, a tray displays.

Summary
The badge viewing experience is improved with skill descriptions displayed in the detail tray. When a skill chip is clicked, learners, issuers, and external viewers see a tray with added context about the selected skill.
Note: Skill trays are only available for organisations using the default Talent Neuron Skill Taxonomy.
Change Benefit
This update adds skill descriptions to the badge detail tray, helping issuers confidently select relevant skills, reducing ambiguity, and providing viewers with clearer context. By explaining each skill's meaning and relevance, the update also increases the perceived value and transparency of badges.
Feature Workflow
Demonstrated Skills Description
When reviewing a badge or when viewing a published badge, when users select a skill chip, the skill’s description displays in a tray.
Additional Details
This update applies to both issuer and viewer experiences, making it easier to understand the meaning behind skills attached to a badge.
