Google authentication problem

This summer our district changed our Google account naming convention from @hck12.net to @students.hck12.net.  Do I just need to change the student email in the people section on the admin side for them to be able to login with Google saml?   I did that and the student gets “canvas doesn’t have an account for user” message.
