We have an assignment that should be awarding a badge (score of 87% or higher), however it's not awarding badges. Some exploration and testing revealed that since the instructor has set the assignment to Letter Grade with a grading scheme, that this is the reason the badge is not being awarded.
In my testing case:
- I created an assignment that used a defined grading scheme with the assignment set to "letter grade" to mimic the assignment that is not awarding a badge
- I set up a badge to be awarded using the same parameters as what we had set (87%)
- I gave a grade to one of my demo students in that course and the grade was released --- no badge was awarded.
- I then set the Badge award to "87 points" instead of % to see if that mattered. It did not --- no badge was awarded.
- I then removed the grading scheme and had the assignment set to points --- a badge was awarded
- THUS - I concluded it was the letter grade/grading scheme that interfered with the badge award --- not b/c the grading scheme was wrong in anyway, it's the actual setting of an assignment being a grading scheme/letter grade.
FOLX - is the assumption correct? Can we not have assignments set to "Letter Grade" even though sitting behind the scenes there is an actual number or percent being given to the student that then produces the view of the Letter Grade in Grades?
